The first version of the work was shown in Beijing in 2007. Set in an abandoned Beijing factory, For Display Only featured an assemblage of beauty salon shop barber poles re-purposed as stage prop for a series of performances during the run of the exhibition – the 798 arts festival Beijing, China.
