American Pavilion

American pavilion is an exhibition of minimalist works that sets out to say something about America from a distance. The room of works takes as a starting point the fancy that an imaginary artist was chosen to represent the United Staes at a *Biennale in Thailand. What would that artist create?
The works created to date included a skeletal abstraction on the American flag, a white on white composition constructed out of drop ceiling panels, a forlorn disco ball, a fluorescent cross, a scale model of the Twin Towers. These items serve as a collection of symbols and signifiers that point to a contemporary understanding of America.
The exhibition repeatedly references the colors Red white and Blue of the American, as well as The flag. As an American artist living in Thailand In the current political landscape; being exposed to many political works by Thai artists leads me to a parallel reaction. I come to a stance where i find it more authentic to respond to the political problems of both my native and adopted country using American tools, signs and symbols. Using my nations own vocabulary, a vernacular of my own blood.
