Corridor (obedience study #1 )

Corridor (obedience study #1 ) – Curated by Mark Tribe
We’re in this problematic situation. We’re the audience that wants to see everything, and we’ll be obedient to most requirements to keep the information flowing. The degraded media quality of surveillance systems has become synonymous, in our perception, with the reportage of a steady stream of covert tragedies. As we peep into police and military interrogation rooms on a daily basis, our worst expectations and fears of human behavior are confirmed.
In the corridor we find a subject of fascination and in the viewing room, an audience, target of the analysis. Hidden behind a mirrored glass panel, the audience has a choice to view or not to view the subject in an on/off mode of simple behavior. The ‘quality’ of the end image received, (delivered thru standard surveillance equipment) is accepted in the same way we accept other covert images, and as such it contains an undertone of illicit activity. Its data passes across no- nonsense networks, being delivered efficiently, like an electric shock.
The audience must choose between its will to see, its right to be informed, and the desire to protect the human being behind the glass.
